Table of Contents
  • Earth Day (April 22) and World Environment Day (June 5) are celebrated annually to raise awareness about environmental problems and encourage concerted action to tackle them globally.

  • The question arises about how aware the world community truly is of the challenges facing the environment.

  • As discussed in Chapter 4 on sustainable development, the environment has been a central concern for the international community for a long time.

  • With the rise of globalization, the growth of market economies, and the technological revolution, the global environment, particularly in developing countries, is increasingly threatened.

  • It is now necessary to rethink international relations and their connection to the environment.

  • A significant international initiative to address environmental concerns was the Stockholm Conference (1972) on Environment, held under the auspices of the United Nations.

  • Since the Stockholm Conference, numerous summits and conferences have been held, and many conventions have been passed to raise awareness about environmental problems such as global warming, climate change, pollution (air, water, and sound), and sustainable development.
