UGC NET GEOGRAPHY

Cultural, Social and Political Geography (UNIT 7)

LANGUAGE

Geopolitics interconnects political theory, geography, and history. In other words, they study the country’s domestic and foreign policies mainly in conjunction with their geographical location. However, geopolitical analysis usually focuses on the use of natural resources and the impact of geographic characteristics in national and foreign policy. The importance of geographic conditions cannot be ignored – actors who are able to make use of that may gain a decisive advantage in the international arena. Natural resources are becoming the new powerful key to defining geopolitics and securing economic and strategic interests.

Global power shifts in the post-Cold-War era have characteristically moved away from traditional military rivalries to economic expansion and prowess. The paradigm, in part fueled by technological advances and the ferocious scale of globalization in recent decades, has highlighted the strategic advantages lent by natural resources.
