  • Society is a complicated web of social relationships that are both formal and informal.
  • These relationships exist between two or more individuals, individuals and groups, and different groups.
  • The entire community or society is a group of groups.
  • A society’s interactional field consists of groups (formal and informal), alliances, coalitions, and social networks.
  • These elements form the structure of society.
  • Groups exist as relatively permanent entities; members come and go, but the group’s continuity remains intact.
  • The arrival of new members or the departure of old members changes the demography and composition, but the group’s identity remains unchanged.
  • The identity of India as a society remains intact despite changes in membership since 1947.
  • A group’s life span can be longer or shorter than the life span of any member.
  • Groups can cease functioning, and new groups can emerge as part of social change.
  • The longevity of groups varies; some have longer durations, while others may be short-lived depending on their purpose.
  • The birth and death of groups, or changes in membership, are part of the dynamics of social change.
