Waves are the movement of water molecules in the ocean’s surface layers, and they are limited to our oceans and seas. A wave is formed when air and water molecules collide and energy from the wind is transferred to the water.

Ocean Wave

Formation of Waves

  • Energy passing through water causes it to move in a circular direction, resulting in waves.
  • As a wave passes, water particles travel in a little circle.
  • The waves get their energy from the wind.
  • The wind creates waves in the ocean, and the energy is discharged along the coast.
  • The stagnant deep bottom water of the seas is rarely affected by surface water movement.
  • A wave slows down as it reaches the shore. The friction between the running water and the seafloor is the cause of this.
